U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has named a 23 man roster to take on Cuba Friday night in Havana and New Zealand four days later in Washington, D.C. in his team’s final friendlies before a key pair of World Qualifying games versus Mexico and Costa Rica next month.

Health issues eliminated Clint Dempsey from consideration but the veteran striker is not the only stalwart missing from this squad. Dueling number one goalkeepers Tim Howard and Brad Guzan have been left out leaving David Bingham, Ethan Horvath, and William Yarbrough to battle for the chance to impress while DC United number one Bill Hamid has again been given the cold shoulder by Klinsmann.

Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has not been included and Klinsmann has elected to go with old reliable Chris Wondolowski and unused Bayern Munich substitute Julian Green over revitalized New England striker Juan Agudelo.

Young U.S. stars Christian Pulisic and Jordan Morris are included as is New York Red Bulls playmaker Sacha Kljestan, who will hope to build on a pair of impressive performances last month against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

Klinsmann has recalled fullback Tim Chandler, midfielders Perry Kitchen, and Danny Williams while handing another chance to Tijuana midfielder Paul Arriola and extending Sunderland’s Lynden Gooch his first senior invite.
