The United States Men’s U18 National Team opened a two game set against mighty Germany with a 2-1 victory Wednesday in Marbella, Spain.

The Young Yanks took a 1-0 lead on a first half tally from Mauricio Pineda, and went ahead by a brace on Brooks Lennon’s goal in the 76th minute.

Germany halved the U.S. lead with a goal from the penalty spot, after U.S. goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann was ejected from the match in the second minute of added time.

The son of the U.S. Men’s National Team coach had picked up a yellow card in the games 79th minute, before being sent off late.

Germany did get one goal back, converting a penalty kick in second-half stoppage time, but it was too little, too late as the USA held on for the win. Osei Owsusu converted the pk for Germany, but with time essentially up there was no time for Die Mannschaft Jr. to catch the U.S.

The two sides will do it all again tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 19, with the Americans looking to complete an impressive sweep.
