Star forward Lindsey Horan and Harvard freshman Margaret Purce were the big scorers of the night, with Horan tallying a brace. She kicked things off in the 24th minute of the game, collecting a pass behind the Chinese back line from midfielder Rachel Hill. She then charged the box, going head to head with the goalkeeper before firing it in from six yards out.

China PR put up a hefty fight after that stunning goal, with defense becoming impenetrable throughout the remainder of the first half and well into the second. Finally in the 76th minute,  it was the brilliant teamwork of Mallory Pugh and Purce that breached the second U.S. goal. Pugh got the ball at the top of the box and drove a low cross into the middle. A furious battle ensued as players on both sides scrambled for possession, but the ball popped out, landing at Purce’s dangerous feet. She quickly capitalized to up the U.S. lead 2-0.

The Chinese lost composure a bit after that second goal, and Horan was able to score just minutes after. Stephanie Amack crossed to her from the right side and headed the ball well over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to steal the win 3-0. The U.S. and China will clash again on March. 1.
